sewing a fresh wound, 2025

Each time we are harmed, we are presented with a choice. We can either focus on the wound itself and the fact that we are now hurt, or we can train our eyes towards the direction of healing and growth. Illustrated in this piece is the moment when one chooses to heal. Equating seed sowing to the sewing and stitching of an open wound, the figure watches a blossoming lily emerge from the sight of an arrow’s impact in its body. Keeping the fletching of the arrow in sight without focusing on the injury allows for the wounded creature to mentally reframe their situation and remind themself that they are more than the hurt that they have been dealt.
